How we review

This page explains what our reviews are and what they are not, so you can decide how much weight to give them.

Where our information comes from

Each review starts with what the developer publishes: the app store listings, the developer's website, help pages and published rules. The "At a glance" box on each article records the developer, platforms, pricing model and player count from those sources, and we note the month we last checked them.

Beyond that, we describe how a game or app works from its published features and design. Where we give a view on who it suits or which option to choose, that view appears in a box marked "Editorial opinion" or in plainly worded sentences such as "we think".

What we do not do

We do not run lab tests. We do not measure battery drain, frame rates, load times or crash rates, and we do not publish numeric scores or star ratings. A score suggests a precision that a written opinion does not have.

We do not publish user testimonials or quote people we have not spoken to.

What we do not cover

We do not review gambling apps, sports betting, casino games or social casino games that use virtual chips, even where they are legal. We also leave out games aimed mainly at young children, since the questions parents need answered there are different from ours.

Prices and features change

Apps update often. A feature we describe may move, change or disappear, and prices vary by country and over time. Check the store listing before you buy. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

Some articles link to games, apps and services. Links are included where they help the reader. If a link is part of a commercial arrangement, that does not change what we write about the product. See about us.
